WHEY AND MILK POWDER POST PELLET COATING FOR PIGLET FEED

Whey is especially used for piglet feed and is normally introduced into the main batch mixer before pelleting, due to the high level of whey in the formula. This creates production difficulties as it results in being a hard product to be pelletized. In addition, due to the mechanical and heat stress of pelletization, the nutrients of the whey can be partially destroyed as they are very sensitive to heat. The protein content due to the Maillard reaction will change the taste of the whey from the typical milk taste to a more bitter taste, reducing the appetizing effects for the piglets.

PLP SYSTEMS has developed a technical application to add part of the whey in powder form directly on the pellets at the end of the production. This results has many benefits: Improving feed quality; reducing production issues, saving the nutrition value of the whey by avoiding heat or mechanical stress, improving the palatability and taste of the feed, creating an innovation feed for better sales.
